Federal Agencies – Getting Help
If you can't get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, your office may be able to help resolve a problem or get you the information you need. While we cannot guarantee you a favorable outcome, we will do our best to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem. Contact your congressional office for assistance in dealing with Federal agencies.

Flying Flag Over Capitol
Purchase a U.S. flag through your office. There is no limit on the number of flags you may order. You may also request that your new flag be flown over the Capitol. Flags may be flown for a particular person, event, or organization, and may be flown on a specific date. A certificate of recognition is included with each flag.
There are thousands of federal grant programs that your organization might be eligible for and I am often asked about what is available. Learn about the available resources to help eligible grantseekers find information on federal grants, loans, and nonfinancial assistance for projects, as well as on private funding.
I run an internship program accepting college students interested in learning about the operations of a congressional office. In addition to general office support, interns assist my staff with constituent services, Capitol tours, and light research. Interns are also encouraged to attend hearings, lectures, and seminars available in Congress and around the Hill.
Nominations to the U.S. Service Academies
One of my duties as a Member of Congress is nominating the Northern Mariana Islands’ best and brightest young men and women to our nation's service academies. These academies offer students a first-rate – entirely free – college education, and the opportunity to receive an officer’s commission in the armed forces upon graduation.
Obtaining a congressional nomination is the usual first step for students who seek an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY.
Candidates interested in seeking a nomination from your office to one of these academies must request a copy of my nomination request form in addition to applying directly to the Academy's Admissions office. The complete nomination request form should be submitted by December 15 of the year prior to enrollment.
Once congressional nominations are made to the academies, the admissions boards at these academies make the final selection of students who will be offered appointments.
Appointments to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT, are made on the basis of an annual nationwide competition.
Applicants for a congressional nomination should have a broad academic background, the ability to pass a physical aptitude test, and strong leadership potential. An applicant must also be a U.S. citizen, a high school graduate, ages 17 to 23, unmarried, have no dependents, and be of high moral character.
Parents and Teachers
We understand that many of you who travel to and from the Northern Mariana Islands often have to make stops at foreign countries before reaching your intended destination and therefore require a passport to travel. Please look over the information we have regarding obtaining a passport and passport assistance here.
