$6 million for disaster recovery

Dec 2, 2019

The Historic Preservation Office of the CNMI Department of Community and Cultural Affairs is receiving $6 million the National Park Service announced. $50 million was authorized in the disaster relief bill, Public Law 116-20, we passed in June for areas hit by Hurricanes Florence and Michael and Typhoon Yutu. HPO is one of only seven organizations awarded money. The funds can be used to repair properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places, such as the Japanese Lighthouse and Hospital on Saipan and the House of Taga on Tinian. Restoring historic sites will help the continuing recovery of our tourism economy. No local match is required. Congratulations, HPO!
