Let’s end poverty

With half the Marianas living below the federal poverty line I have been an active member of the Democratic Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity since it began in 2013. At our first meeting of the 116th Congress, we heard from authors of a new study on what works to reduce poverty. Food assistance, the child care tax credit, housing vouchers, and raising the minimum wage are among the programs the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine researchers found most effective in their report, A Roadmap to Reducing Poverty Report: Building an Agenda to Reduce the Number of Children Living in Poverty by Half in 10 Years.
