More money for water, clean energy

The Agriculture Committee completed its portion of the reconciliation budget plan for Fiscal Year 2022, S. Con. Res.14, including funds the Marianas can use for clean water, clean energy, and farm research. There is $18 billion in the legislation to ensure insular areas, tribal and rural communities have access to clean water and reliable and efficient renewable energy.

$430 million is dedicated for rural water and wastewater grants for high poverty areas including the Marianas. And $1 billion is available to Northern Marianas College and the other Minority Serving Institutions nationwide to develop a diverse pipeline of agriculture researchers. All Republicans voted against the legislation, which now goes to the Budget Committee for consideration. Read more about the plan here.
