Appropriators fund Kagman Health Center

Jul 3, 2015

The House Appropriations Committee has approved my request for FY16 funding for community health centers, including the Kagman Health Center. Federally funded health centers put services for pregnant mothers and newborns, vaccinations, and other primary and preventative care within easy reach of local communities.

When first elected in 2009, I asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for planning money to help leaders in Kagman and the CNMI Division of Public Health, who had been working for years on the complex application for a community health center. Using that planning money, their efforts finally paid off and the Kagman Health Center received an initial operational grant of $608,333 in FY12.

Funding has increased every year since. The current, FY15 grant is $872,173. The Appropriations Committee also approved continued funding in FY16 for the Special Education IDEA Grants, Head Start, and Senior Community Service Employment Program, as I recommended.
