Perez confirmed to head U.S. Department of Labor

The Senate has confirmed Thomas E. Perez to be the next Secretary of Labor.  A career public servant at the local, state and federal levels, Mr. Perez most recently served as the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice where he worked to protect the most vulnerable in our society through the enforcement of our nation’s civil rights laws.  As Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, he was known for working with business and labor leaders to seek fair resolution on important issues, earning support for his work from the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.  These qualities and skills make me confident Mr. Perez is the right person to lead the department responsible for protecting worker rights.  The Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division has an office in Saipan.
