USCIS provides extension for visitors stranded by earthquake

Mar 12, 2011

Washington, DC — The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service has announced it will grant an extra 30 days stay to Japanese and other foreign nationals stranded in the U.S. as a result of the today’s earthquakes and tsunamis in the Pacific.

USCIS is advising visitors traveling under the Visa Waiver Program, who are at a U.S. airport, to contact the Customs and Border Protection office there for assistance.

All other VWP travelers and visitors traveling under a nonimmigrant visa are asked to visit the local USCIS.  In Saipan the USCIS Application Service Center is located at TSL Plaza Building on Beach Road in Garapan. For other parts of the U.S. click here to find the nearest USCIS office or go to https://egov.scis.gov.

Nonimmigrant visa holders are asked to bring their passport, evidence that they are stranded, such as an itinerary for a cancelled flight, and their I-94 departure record.
