Support for indigenous languages
The Native American Language Vitalization Act, which I introduced today, will help ensure Chamorro and Refaluwasch continue to be spoken by future generations in the Marianas.
EDA disaster grants now open
Disaster funds from the Economic Development Administration – funds I ensured the Marianas could apply for in Public Law 116-20 – are now available.
Historic preservation funds also
The application period for $50 million in emergency supplemental historic preservation funding we appropriated in Public Law 116-20 is now open for areas hit by Hurricanes Michael and Florence and Super Typhoon Yutu.
Keeping Brand USA helps recovery
With tourism still recovering from Super Typhoon Yutu, preventing the loss of Brand USA is critical, because this federal program partners with the Marianas Visitors Authority to promote our islands in key markets in Asia.
Protect health care rights for all
Reps. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Joe Kennedy (D-MA), Barbara Lee (D-CA), and I wrote to Health and Human Services Secretary Azar in strong opposition to a proposed rule rolling back key Obamacare protections.
Action sought on VA claims errors
On August 12, I joined my colleagues on the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees in a bipartisan letter to Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie about the Inspector General’s audit report that found the VA inappropriately rejected or denied payment for non-VA emergency care for approximately 60,800 veterans between April 1, 2017 and September 30, 2017.
