In-state tuition for NMC grads

Jun 7, 2021

Graduates of Northern Marianas College would get a big break on tuition, when getting a bachelor’s degree off-island, from the College Access Act I introduced on Friday. Students from American Samoa would also benefit; and their representative Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen (R) has cosponsored my bill.

Nationwide, nonresident college students spend an average of $16,380 more on tuition than resident students according to the College Board. My College Access Act would allow the federal government to cover that cost difference for graduates of NMC or the American Samoa Community College, who go on for a bachelor’s degree at any public university in the United States. The Marianas and American Samoa are the only U.S. jurisdictions without a four-year university.
