Testifying for Marianas vets

There are Marianas veterans throughout the U.S., who cannot return home, because they would lose access to VA services and benefits that are unavailable in our islands. That was my message before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs at Members Day on Tuesday. The lack of a Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, staffed by Veterans Administration doctors and nurses, a Vets Center, and a benefits office were among the disparities I said need to be addressed. Appropriators set aside time to listen to individual members of Congress each year. Most members, myself included, submit spending requests online. But I believe in making the case for my constituents face-to-face with those making the decisions. Only six other Members took the time to meet the Subcommittee.
