Update on FEMA's Rota Efforts

Sep 12, 2018

FEMA is coordinating response support for temporary power, food and water and any medical shortfalls. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services (HHS), the U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE), the U.S. Dept. of Transportation (DOT) and a FEMA communications group have personnel and equipment prepared to employ as requested to the Island of Rota.

USACE has prepositioned a temporary power team in Guam and is forward moving to support the Marianas. Support to the hospital on Rota that is currently running on generator power is ongoing as the power is coming back online. A temporary power plan to support the island is being established and generator assets have been identified.

ESF 6 (A group that handles Mass Care & Human Service-related needs) spent the day coordinating with ESF 6 on the island of Rota and CNMI leadership to identify any food and water shortfalls. FEMA is providing 20 pallets of water at the request of the CNMI Government.  Aside from the 20 pallets of water, the Governor has requested support to transport food commodities only. The island as of now will be managing the food supply without federal assistance.

The U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services is providing support to the hospital on Rota to prepare as needed to provide medical support staff. A small Dept. of Defense combat medical team is currently on site providing assistance as needed.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is working with the island of Rota to support any shortfalls with assessments and debris clearance of roads, the airport and port.
