Agriculture bills advanced

The Agriculture Committee favorably reported on Thursday bills supporting national forests, wildfire mitigation, wildlife health, cattle contract reporting, and 1890 land grant institutions. The Committee’s markup also included legislation funding innovative efforts to recycle agricultural commodity by-products. The six bills now go to the full House for consideration. Watch the markup here.

Vets discharge health aid plan enacted

The U.S. Veterans Administration will now begin developing a strategic plan to give all veterans one year of health care after they separate from active service. The requirement is a compromise worked out between the House and Senate Veterans Affairs committees on the proposal for one year of health care coverage that I introduced in H.R. 5024.
